Excerpt:
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Pat White's pursuit of a national record took a temporary back seat to his health. The West Virginia quarterback didn't get injured for the first time in over a month by getting fewer carries and taking fewer hits. He let his arm do most of his work and teammate Noel Devine provided all the rushing the Mountaineers needed in a 34-17 win over Auburn on Thursday night. White, a senior, managed only 8 rushing yards -- his lowest total since midway through his freshman season -- on 11 carries. That left White with 3,942 career yards as he closes in on the NCAA record for quarterbacks of 4,289 set by Missouri's Brad Smith from 2002-05. Considering that White sat out the Syracuse game on Oct. 11 with a head injury and missed parts of the two previous games with an injured finger, the West Virginia coaching staff was not going full throttle with White's ability to make defenses miss. "I guess they're trying to keep me healthy," White said.
